How to Enroll in CHIP

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is pleased to offer the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in the Travis service area. If your child is uninsured, he or she may be able to get CHIP.

Who is This Plan For?

To learn if you or your child qualifies for CHIP, visit the Your Texas Benefits website. Once you find out if you qualify for CHIP or CHIP Perinate, you will choose a health plan. BCBSTX is one of the plans you can choose in the Travis service area.

To select BCBSTX for your CHIP plan, you must:

  • Qualify for CHIP through the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC)
  • Live in Bastrop, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Travis or Williamson county

How Do I Join?

Joining is easy. There are two ways for you to join Texas Medicaid. Call or go online.

Phone

Call 2-1-1, a toll-free number from the HHSC, to learn more about applying for CHIP benefits. You can call Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central Time (CT).

Need more information?

Call the enrollment broker at 1-800-964-2777 (toll-free) 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT, Monday to Friday. If you have hearing or speech loss, call the TTY line at 711 or 1-800-735-2989 (toll-free).
