Behavioral Health Services Will Be Insourced for Some Texas Group Members Starting Jan. 1

For the 2026 coverage year starting Jan. 1, 2026, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas will take over the administration of all behavioral health services from Magellan Healthcare® for our members with Blue Advantage HMO℠. Previously, Magellan Healthcare had administered these services.

Insourcing behavioral health services as of Jan. 1, 2026:

  • Creates a unified member experience with fully integrated and coordinated behavioral health and medical care for our BCBSTX members.
  • Leverages existing and proven internal behavioral health management services and management capabilities, streamlines required processes and improves member support in this critical area.
  • Provides members with access to their benefits and coverage information through their online member account including behavioral health plan information, claims and deductibles.
  • Makes the Mental Health Hub available through their Blue Access for Members℠ account. The Mental Health Hub delivers access to a range of programs for behavioral health services, resources and virtual tools.

Guidance for Transition of Care

  • Members currently engaged in behavioral health care with a behavioral health provider or facility that’s within both the Magellan and the BCBSTX networks can continue care with that same provider or facility.
  • Members currently engaged in behavioral health care with a behavioral health provider or facility that’s not within the BCBSTX network will have 90 days to transition to an in-network option.

The Mental Health Hub is administered by NovaWell. NovaWell is an independent company that has contracted with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas to provide member health platform and tools, mental health administration network and health information content for members with coverage through BCBSTX.
