Southwestern Health Resources Negotiation

Our contracts with Southwestern Health Resources in North Texas expire on April 1, 2025. SWHR includes Texas Health Resources and UT Southwestern hospitals, facilities and doctors. We’re working closely with SWHR leadership and hope to sign new contracts. This negotiation affects multiple plans at BCBSTX, not just TRS’s.

Our participants are priority. We want to reach an agreement that'll continue to give them access to SWHR doctors and hospitals at fair prices.

Even if SWHR leaves our networks, they’ll continue to have access to our robust network of doctors, health care professionals, hospitals and facilities throughout North Texas.

Why It Matters

If BCBSTX and SWHR don’t sign new contracts before April 1, 2025, THR and UTSW hospitals, health care facilities, doctors and health care professionals won’t be in network for health plans at BCBSTX, including  TRS-ActiveCare plan, on April 1.

  • TRS-ActiveCare Primary
  • TRS-ActiveCare Primary+
  • TRS-ActiveCare HD
  • TRS-ActiveCare 2

Why Negotiate

As a customer-owned health insurance industry leader in Texas for 95 years, we advocate on behalf of the participant for high-quality, cost-effective health care. Our goal is to protect access to quality care at affordable rates. It's a responsibility BCBSTX takes seriously.

Next Steps

BCBSTX can help make their move to other doctors, hospitals and facilities as seamless as possible if they need new care options on or after April 1, 2025.

  • Use Provider Finder to find in-network hospitals and facilities in BCBSTX’s robust network.
  • BCBSTX will work with them on continuing their care, if eligible.
  • BCBSTX can help them schedule a visit with other in-network providers.

Participants can call a Personal Health Guide at 1-866-355-5999 anytime to find new doctors or for help with their plan.

In the case of a life-threatening illness or injury, participants should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room right away. Emergency services are always covered at the in-network benefit level.
