Effective January 1, 2025, all City of Austin Medicare-eligible retirees and their Medicare-eligible dependents will receive medical and prescription drug coverage under the City of Austin retiree MAPD Open Access PPO plan administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.

  • Medicare-eligible retirees and their Medicare-eligible dependents, WHO ARE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN A CITY MEDICAL PLAN, will be automatically enrolled in this plan starting January 1, 2025.
  • A Medicare-eligible dependent of a retiree who is not yet on Medicare may enroll in this plan at benselect.com/coa or by calling 1-888-584-2919.
  • Retirees and their dependents can opt out of the Medicare Advantage plan by waiving the benefit at benselect.com/coa or by calling 1-888-584-2919.

Important Note

You must be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B to be a member of this retiree plan. You must also continue to pay your Part B premium, just as you do today. If you are eligible for Medicare Part A and/or Part B but are not enrolled, please contact Social Security right away. You can enroll online at www.ssa.gov or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).
