Employees Volunteer With Habitat for Humanity to Build Houses and Awareness

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas employees recently participated in Habitat for Humanity projects in Austin and Houston to help bring joy to families and raise awareness about affordable housing shortages statewide.

With support from a $35,000 grant from BCBSTX, Houston Habitat for Humanity held three construction days in April. BCBSTX employees and Blue Bear were among volunteers who worked with families selected for the Habitat program to help build a house.

More than 20 employees and 10 of their friends and relatives helped construct and affix walls to the house’s foundation and install mudsill anchors, hurricane straps, clips and top plate.

In Austin, seven employees participated in a construction project in front of the state capitol to raise awareness about affordable housing needs statewide. A $10,000 sponsorship for the Comal County Habitat for Humanity project will help provide a home for a Lubbock family.

The employees participating in the projects contributed more than 170 volunteer hours. Volunteering is a vibrant part of BCBSTX’s culture, embodying the company’s commitment to advancing health and opportunity in its communities.

In 2023, BCBSTX employees volunteered more than 47,000 hours with 868 organizations through the Blue CorpsSM program. Learn how BCBSTX is making an impact.
