Video: Providing Access to Immunizations at School

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is working with school districts across the state to ensure children receive the immunizations they need to stay in school and keep communities healthy.

The CareVan@School program, through the Caring Foundation of Texas, helps schools establish on-site clinics providing no-cost vaccines to under- and uninsured students ages 18 years and younger.

The program partnered with the Irving Independent School District in 2020 and has since doubled the number of students in the program and quadrupled the number of vaccines administered, says Karyn Beauchamp, R.N., director of clinic and health services for the district.

“The CareVan@School program has been essential to our ability to keep children in school every day,” Beauchamp says. “Our absenteeism rate due to not having vaccines has decreased and it has increased the ability of parents to have access to care.”
