Valid 9-digit ZIP Code Required
If you utilize the Availity®’ portal to submit electronic claims to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), or if you utilize a billing service or clearinghouse that may submit electronic claims on your behalf, please note:
- A valid 9-digit ZIP code is required at the billing level. A valid 9-digit ZIP code is also required for the service facility location, if different from the billing address.
- A 9-digit ZIP code is not required in the patient’s and/or subscriber address; however, if a 9-digit ZIP code is entered, it must be valid, otherwise the claim will reject.
- A rejection message will appear on the Electronic Batch Report when the ZIP code is determined to be invalid.
We appreciate your patience as we encounter, research and report on issues related to the ANSI Version 5010 implementation. If you have any questions regarding this notice, please contact our Electronic Commerce Center at 800-746-4614.
