Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas plans has in place an arrangement with McKesson Specialty Pharmaceuticals to supply certain high cost injectable drugs to the office of participating providers.
Providers who participate with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas plans will have the option of obtaining certain high cost injectable drugs from McKesson. If these injectable drugs are obtained through McKesson, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas will reimburse McKesson directly and the provider is relieved of the financial burden associated with inventory control and billing of high cost injectable therapies.
Through this program, providers can submit injectable prescriptions by fax or phone. McKesson will then coordinate authorization with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and ship the prescription either to the physician's office or the patient's home in refrigerated packaging, when necessary. Needles, syringes, and alcohol swabs will be provided at no charge with every shipment.
