Richardson, TX — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) announced today that it has been recognized as one of the Healthiest Employers in North Texas by the Dallas Business Journal, ranking fourth overall. The Healthiest Employers program measures wellness programs in six categories, including: culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communication and marketing, programming and interventions, and reporting and analysis.
Last year, about 80 percent of BCBSTX employees participated in wellness events such as health fairs, National Walk at Lunch Day, onsite screenings, wellness campaigns and Weight Watchers. More than 750 employees are currently enrolled at the onsite fitness center which opened in August 2010. In addition, hundreds of BCBSTX employees tracked their activity in minutes as part of an online wellness program, with a majority of participants reporting that they made behavioral changes as a result of participating in the program.
For 2011, the company has set a company goal of losing lose 1.5 tons. "While weight management will be the cornerstone of this year's effort, we're encouraging our employees to get involved in several different internal programs aimed at managing stress, promoting exercise, and healthy eating habits that will help to achieve an overall healthy lifestyle," said Darren Rodgers, president, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas.
