Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas Names Houston Entrepreneur and Former NBA Player To Its Affiliate Board
Richardson, Texas — Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas has announced that Clyde Drexler, Partner, HMS Host Corporation, has been named as a member of the Texas Affiliate Board. The board's function is to advise Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas about local business and community priorities, health care developments and community relations opportunities and to potentially serve in an advisory capacity to the board of directors of Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), which operates Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in Texas, Illinois, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
Prior to becoming a restaurant/real estate and concessions business owner, Mr. Drexler was an NBA shooting guard, a 10-time All-Star, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame and a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic Dream Team. He twice led the Portland Trail Blazers to the NBA Finals, after which he earned an NBA championship ring as a member of the Houston Rockets.
Mr. Drexler has gained almost 30 years of experience serving on the board of directors for numerous charitable and non-profit organizations, including The Holocaust Museum and Memorial Hermann Hospital System. He is also a contributor to many national, regional and local charitable and public service efforts. As an actor and television broadcaster, he has made hundreds of corporate and professional television appearances, product endorsements and speaking engagements for Fortune 500 companies.
Since 2000, Mr. Drexler has served as an ambassador for the National Basketball Association, promoting basketball globally. He has also served as head basketball coach at his alma mater, University of Houston, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology and made significant contributions to the university’s basketball program.
